Ongoing Opportunities

Volunteer at lunch time with the Parents Assisting Lunch Shifts (PALS) program.  The PALS program is a fun and easy way to help the school and check out what is going on with the students. The volunteers' job is to help oversee the hall pass program when students leave the cafeteria during lunchtimes. The volunteer shift time on regular school days is 11:20am to 1:20pm. There is a brief break time between the lunch shifts. The scheduling goal is to have 2 volunteers each day.   I am setting up the September 2009 volunteer schedule for the PALS program.  Future months will be scheduled after back to school night. If you are available and interested in volunteering send to me as soon as possible:

-- If you are interested, please contact me at dcrisco@comcast.net  (Dayna Crisco, PALS Coordinator)

Media Volunteers, daily 11:20-1:20 p.m.  Help with checking in and reshelving books, filing items, and assisting students who visit the library during lunch.  Contact Amy Schroeder at FritznAmy@aol.com (Amy Schroeder, PTA Volunteer Coordinator).

Recording Books on CDs: Maureen Kelly (Special Education) is looking for parent volunteers who are able to record books onto CDs for her to use in her classroom.  Reading can be done at home.  For more information, please contact maureen_kelly@hcpss.org

Basically just a welcoming voice/face to answer any questions they have and to make them feel at home here at BBMS. Please let me know by email today if you are interested in being one of these families.

LUNCH MONITORS

Bonnie Branch is in need of some parent volunteers to assist with monitoring the students at all lunch shifts.  Our students' welfare, safety and general well being is everyone’s responsibility and unfortunately, at times, those lines can be tested.  The school makes an effort to stay on top of the students and know where and what each one is doing at all times during the day.  Unfortunately at lunch, that task becomes more difficult for the staff due to their own lunch breaks and with so many students doing different things at one time (i.e.– visiting the bathroom, in-room detentions, in-room testing/tutoring, visiting the media center, etc.)  We know it is not always a fun job to sit at lunch, listen to excuses and sometimes attitudes, while handing out passes, but it is a necessary and important job.  Please consider giving up even just one or two afternoons a month to help out.  (And it doesn't have to be just moms who help, if a dad can help on his lunch break for even an hour – it would be great!)  We promise you, the benefits to the school and students will be greatly felt. If you can help, please contact …Tiffany Wendt (PTA President) at tiffany_wendt@hcpss.org
